ISecureDat is now offers a FREE service of retaining a copy of your encryption key should you wish. If your key is lost, it is both extremely difficult and expensive to recover it and even then it may or may not work. Your encryption key is of the utmost importance to you to recover your data files from our server. If it's lost, so technically speaking is your ability to recover these files.

ISecureDat has noted that often during the excitement or confusion of setting up a remote data backup system, the encryption key was jotted down on a piece of paper and promptly lost. This often happens due to it's rather cryptic appearance and therefore does not make an impression of being something important. Additionally, even when prompted by the software to make a backup copy to a floppy, this step in often ignored... that and the fact most all newer machines don't even have a floppy drive anymore.

You don't normally require your encryption key unless your system has crashed and you needed to reinstall the ISD remote client software either on another system or new hard drive. The software itself can be downloaded from our site at any time via: download/ISDRB-setup.exe

Once the replacement system has been setup with the correct information, the agent will then synchronize all new and updated files with the ISecureDat servers. Your files will again be current and available for recovery when needed.

ISecureDat does not and will not keep your private encryption key on any server or computer. Your key is stored on a USB key and kept locked away removing any possibility of being hacked or physically accessed.
Specific information created at the time the key backup requested is made will be required to access the key later. This would be knowledge privileged only by authorized personal along with a copy of the original photographic documentation used during the initial setup request.
