LINKSYS ROUTER - server fails router/firewall - client trouble

Q .: client software is logging in and out of the remote backup server without making a solid connection. It appeared to attempt a connect over and over again without success. The client software is on a computer attached to pre-Cisco Linksys router.

Note: Newer Linksys Routers with the Cisco label have NOT been shown to have this problem. This problem is fixed by setting the Router's DMZ Host to the private IP address of the remote backup servererver.

Issues involving the client software appearing to log in and out of the server without a successful connection, or with an intermittent connection, are virtually always caused by a misconfiguration of the server's router or firewall. Contact your router vendor's technical support.

Note: All Linksys routers work just fine on cient computers. However, pre-Cisco routers often cause problems when used on servers. It is our official recommendation that you NOT use Linksys routers which do not have a Cisco label on your server. They are consumer-grade devices not intended for use with serious Internet Servers. There are no reported problems with newer Linksys routers displaying a Cisco label.
